Status of Laboratory. Laboratory of animal ecology and biogeography was founded in the Luhansk National Pedagogical University in 2006 on initiative of zoologists working in Nature-geographical faculty of LNPU (Igor Zagorodniuk, Mikhail Kolesnikov, Sergij Litvinenko and Galina Evtushenko). Official resolution about foundation of Laboratory was accepted by Scientific Council of Faculty in September 28, 2006. Scientific adviser of the Laboratory is Prof. Igor Emelianiv, Head of Department of population ecology and biogeography of Institute of Zoology NASU, Corresponding Member of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.

Staff of Laboratory. There are 9 memberships of Laboratory. Head of Laboratory is Dr. Igor Zagorodniuk (PhD, Senior Scientists). Scientific workers are: Dr. Galina Evtushenko (PhD), Mikhail Kolesnikov, Sergij Litvinenko and Sergij Fomin. Assitant of Laboratory are: Marina Korobchenko, Olexandr Reznik, Sergij Zaika, Petro Foroschuk. Laboratory is curator of Ecoclub "Corsac".

Main lines of investigations deals with current state of rarity fauna Luhansk and adjacent provincies of Ukraine as well as historical changes of fauna after anthropogenic transformation of environment. Top-priority attention is attended to investigation of species included in different "red lists" (Red Data Book of Ukraine, Bern Convention etc.) as wll as species, that are rare and less studied on the territory of Eastern Ukraine but require protection. During last year (2006-2007), members of Laboratory realized few scientific and nature protection projects: regional project "Development of econet in Luhansk province", international (WWF) project "Responsible Forest Management for Sustainable Development - Model Forest Areas in Romania and Bulgaria and Building Capacity in the Ukraine" (chapter "fauna"), development and substantiation of regional redlist of fauna of the Luhansk and the Donetsk provincies. Each year, members of Laboratory take part in organisation of International Theriological school-seminar and Annual regional Conference "Birds of Siversky Donets basin and their protection".
